Krumbs was asked to make a cake this weekend for the annual inspiring hope gala that resembles the picture of a cake on the invitations. Well, we did try and it you be the judge how it came out. There's a Japanese proverb "It's easier to make it than thinking about it." That was what came to mind when I thought about making this cake. You see, my mind works in interesting ways. I guess you could say I look at the worls through cake-frosted glasses, going about my days turning images, objects and even people into cakes with my imagination. One day, I saw a picture of a 15th century pagoda in Yokohama, Japan and I thought to myself, "What a great cake that would make!" I just needed a special occasion to run with my imagination and put it on a cake platter. So when my friend Marie Rios, co-founder of the Bay Area Weeding Network asked me to be a sponsor of their event at the Marines' Memorial Club & Hotel in San Francisco, I saw it as THE opportunity to make my pagoda. The biggest challenges that come with building a cake like this are: size, weight, construction and of course transportation. It took more than 30 hours but was worth every second. I got so many great compliments and was thrilled to see so many attendees taking pictures of it with their cell phone cameras
